MENGHILANGKAN ‘If’

A. Pengertian dan cara-cara menghilangkan.

Dalam sebuah Conditional Sentence/Kalimat Pengandaian, tidak selalu diharuskan menggunakan kata ‘If’=Jika/seandainya/Jikalua/seumpama saja.

Kata itu bisa dihilangkan dengan cara infersi' membalik. Yang dimaksud membalik di sini adalah membalik Subject, yang tadinya terletak di depan to be’ ‘were’ atau di depan modal, maka sewaktu ‘If’ itu dihilangkan, to be atau modal itu berpindah di depan, kemudian diikuti Subject. Jadi dari keterangan di atas, terbentuklah Pattern/Rumus sebagai berikut.

B. Pattern/Rumus dan contoh-contoh:

Type I:

am, are, is +Subject-1 +NV, Subject-2, modal-1 verb-1+O

Verb-1 +Subject-1 +N, Subject-2, modal-1 be+NV

Contoh:
Am I healthy, I will attend your invitation.

Should anyone call, please take a message.

Type II:
Verb-2 +Subject-1+ Noun, Subject-2+Modal-2 be+NV.Type II:

Were +Subject-1+ Noun, Subject-2+Modal-2+Veb-1./div>

Contoh:

Were I you, I wouldn’t do that.

Type III:

Had + Subject+Verb-3, Subject-2+modal-2+have+Verb-3+O.

Had + Subject+been+NV, Subject-2+modal-2+have+Verb-3+O.

Contoh:

Had I known, I would have told you.
