BENTUK KATA KEJA DI BELAKANG ‘WISH’

‘wish’ Form	Verb in real condition	Verb preceded by ‘wish’	Wish is used when the speaker wants the reality is different. To be exactly opposite. Wish is followed by the main clause. The use of “that” is optional. Usually it is omitted.
A wish about the future	She will not tell me. He is not going to be here They can’t come tomorrow.	I wish (that) she would tell me. I wish (that) he were going to be here. I wish (that) they could come tomorrow.
A wish about the present	I don’t know French. It is raining right now. I can’t speak Japanese.	I wish I knew French. I wish it were not raining right now. I wish I could speak Japanese.
A wish about the past	John didn’t come. Mary couldn’t come.	I wish John had come. I wish Mary could have come.
